Significant Achievements |
I have about 30 years of research experience. Over the years I have been working on the avifauna of Himalaya, behavioural ecology and sociobiology of some avian species (robins and bulbuls) with special reference to their communication systems. I undertook extensive surveys both in eastern and western Himalaya including Trans-Himalayan areas such as Ladakh, Pangong Tso, Tsomoriri and Spiti Valley. I was a member of the 27th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica. I have participated in both International and National level conferences mostly for oral presentations and chaired/co-chaired scientific sessions in some of them), delivered guest lectures, reviewed research papers for both national and international journals, successfully completed research projects (both extra-mural and departmental) and provided identification & advisory services. In the past, I have worked as a ‘Principal Investigator (Young Scientist)’, for a DST-sponsored study on songs and calls, their characteristics, socio-biological significance and possible role in species isolation in two congeneric, sympatric species of bulbuls i.e. Red-vented bulbul, Pycnonotus cafer and Himalayan bulbul, P. leucogenys in wild. I worked on a departmental project, titled, “Bioacoustic Studies on the Avifauna of Arunachal Pradesh”. Voluminous data on the vocalizations were collected. Apart from working on different ZSI research programmes on the fauna of protected areas, I am working on song variations at individual, micro-geographic and sub-species levels in Copsychus robins. |
