Protozoology Section
Protozoology Section is mainly dealing with the studies on single celled, eukaryotic organisms, which are mostly microscopic and display enormous variability in shape, size and structure. The major contribution of this section includes the taxonomic account of 1500 species i.e., ~ 44% of the known Indian protozoan species is published from this section, including the description of 98 new species and 4 new genera. The total collection holding of this section is about 11233 specimens with 980 species. The type collections include 321 slides of 109 species of free-living and parasitic protozoans. Among that about 1130 slides of ciliates, 153 of which are types slides representing 49 holotypes and 104 paratypes.
