Mollusca Section
The Mollusca Section of the Zoological Survey of India is one of the oldest and largest repositories of molluscs collection among the Asian countries. The sectional collection comprises more than 2 lakhs of registered molluscan specimens (including around 1650 type specimens) acquired from the Museum of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, the Zoological section of the Indian Museum, and collections through various surveys till now which started in the late 18th to the mid-20th centuries. The primary focus of the section is to safeguard the National Zoological Collections (types and non-types) and to promote the research work in the field of malacology.
